ECO REPORT: Supporting Local Business Fights Climate Change
Please join the Ecological Citizen’s Project on Wednesday, June 17, 7:30–8:00 p.m., for a thirty-minute presentation of key findings from a groundbreaking carbon inventory of Philipstown. The full report, Sink, Store, Reduce, Offset: An Innovative GHG Inventory and Its Implications for Reaching Local Carbon Neutrality, is available at Climate Smart Philipstown.
The report is one of the first in New York State to use local data to measure the full life-cycle emission impacts of local consumption patterns and the work of natural resources to remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it. The report’s data reveal that improving community health, building a local food system, and patronizing local businesses are actions that fight climate change. By estimating the extent to which local forests, fields, and farms remove and store carbon, the report shows the value of activities that help nature sequester more pollution.
Join the conversation to discuss how municipalities, social-justice and environmental organizations, and civically engaged individuals can work together to build more connected, resilient communities as we emerge from COVID-19. The report is a result of a collaboration between the Ecological Citizen’s Project, ICLEI-USA, and Climate Smart Philipstown.
This announcement was shared with the Chamber by Jason Angell of the Ecological Citizen’s Project.
