Covid-19 may put a damper on trick-or-treating and large gatherings, but there’s still plenty of Halloween cheer around Cold Spring. Here are a few socially distant holiday activities that will give you an excuse to wear a spooky mask.

THE GREAT PUMPKIN HUNT, SATURDAY, OCT. 24, 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The Haldane School Foundation will put on a pumpkin hunt in local businesses for children. Players will purchase game cards for $10 on St. Mary’s lawn and return there for prizes. The event, which will bring residents to Main Street, is the foundation’s way of thanking businesses for their ongoing support.

PUMPKIN GLOW AT DESMOND-FISH LIBRARY, SATURDAY, OCT. 24, 5:30–7:00 p.m. Take a stroll through a patch of spooky carved pumpkins anytime between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Costumes are encouraged; protective masks are required. The pumpkins will remain on display on the back wall through Halloween.

PUMPKIN WALK ON MAIN STREET, FRIDAY & SATURDAY, OCT. 30–31, NOON–6:00 p.m. Bring the kids in costume down to Main Street to enjoy a festive scene, with Halloween windows, jack-o’-lanterns, and holiday cheer in the shops.

HIGHLAND CURRENT’S VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST, NOW–OCT. 30. Through Oct. 27, submit photos of yourself, your children, your pets, or the whole family in costume. Grownups are also invited to send “throwbacks”: Halloween photos from their childhood. The Current will showcase a “Parade in the Paper” with photos on Oct. 30. A panel of judges will choose winners, who will receive gift cards from local sponsors.
