The Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce and Magazzino Italian Art Foundation are pleased to announce that Anneke Chan will be the first recipient of the Magazzino Educational Scholarship. The scholarship, inaugurated this year, is offered annually to a local high school junior or senior with a strong interest in visual art or museum management. It consists of an award of $1,000 and a paid internship at Magazzino Italian Art.

Anneke Chan is a recent graduate of Haldane High School, where she was this year’s salutatorian. She plans to pursue a dual degree in studio art and anthropology at Tufts University in the fall. In addition to receiving the Magazzino Educational Scholarship, she won the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for her artwork “Pool Party,” which will be displayed for a year in the U.S. Capitol in Washington.

As an organization that works to encourage excellence, the Chamber is proud to recognize Anneke Chan for her artistic talent, work ethic, and leadership skills. We thank Nat Prentice, the Scholarship Committee Chair, who successfully steered the partnership with Magazzino Italian Art Foundation that makes this scholarship possible. The Chamber looks forward to many more years of encouraging talented young people in our community through this special collaboration.

“We are thrilled to launch this scholarship and invite Anneke Chan, an extraordinary student and artist, into the Magazzino family,” said Magazzino Italian Art Foundation Co-founders Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu. “It is clear from Anneke’s application that she will be a future leader in the arts. Connecting with her is a privilege and we are thrilled to offer her a prize in honor of her accomplishments and also provide first-hand work experience with an internship this summer. We are thrilled with the successful start to this project and look forward to engaging with the local student community directly for years to come.”
