Whether or not we know it, most people in the area benefit from the work done by the Hudson Highlands Land Trust. If you appreciate plant and animal biodiversity or enjoy the simple pleasure of birdwatching, if you enjoy hiking on well maintained hiking trails, or marvel at how many forested areas are in the Cold Spring and Garrison area, this organization has much to do with it.
The Hudson Highlands Land Trust protects and preserves the natural resources, rural character and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands in New York State’s Hudson Valley. Over the past thirty years, they have permanently conserved thousands of acres of critical habitat, natural landscapes, and unsurpassed scenic resources in the area.
Established in 1989, the HHLT is an accredited land conservation organization devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources, rural character and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands. The area they cover includes critical watersheds, scenic vistas, wildlife habitats, parklands, and farmlands that lie within the towns of Putnam Valley, Philipstown, Cornwall and Highlands.
In addition to their land conservation and municipal planning work, they offer programming to help community members better understand the issues related to natural resources protection, land conservation and stewardship. They host a wide variety of events and activities throughout the year for residents and visitors to learn about and celebrate our region.
