Advocacy for Public Restrooms

In a letter to the Cold Spring trustees this month, the Chamber and twenty-two other community, volunteer, faith-based, not-for-profit, and business organizations ask the village to allocate funds to allow Cold Spring’s public restrooms to be open during times of peak need. The letter presents reasons why keeping the restrooms closed is inhumane and contrary to residents’ interests.

The trustees will finalize the annual village budget later this month. Thus far, they appear divided over whether village tax revenue should be used for this purpose. We need residents of Cold Spring to express their support for the request. If you would like to do so, please sign the petition below.

The Chamber will also ask the town, county, and state governments to help the village pay for tourism management. Purchases by visitors to Cold Spring sustain many regional residents and funnel sales tax to the county and state. Healthy tourist traffic supports world-class recreational opportunities in this area and a vibrant Main Street, which benefit locals by boosting property values and providing desirable amenities. All levels of government should support this public good.

We hope that with continued public support, the Village will come up with a sustainable solution to solve this issue for the community.
