"Keep Cold Spring Beautiful" PSA Campaign

The Chamber is pleased to announce that the “Keep Cold Spring Beautiful” visitor PSA campaign has been launched. We would like to thank the Village Trustees and Putnam County Department of Tourism for collaborating with us on this project focused on encouraging responsible visitor behavior. Its aims to address some of the issues we've seen arise as a result of unplanned spikes in tourism traffic, particularly over the last year.

For example, people have been eating full meals on Main Street benches to avoid dining indoors (or for a lack of options), which leads to crowded sidewalks with mask-less people eating there, no room for seniors and other visitors to sit and rest, overflowing trash cans, etc. So one of the designs suggests people picnic at the available parks instead, diverting crowds from Main Street and encouraging them to eat where there's more open space and less crowd exposure. Another design encourages people to walk to the next empty trash can to dispose of litter rather than piling it on top of an overflowing can. We hope that through the campaign's subtle nudges, we can encourage best behavior from the public this season, and going forward.

The campaign design was commissioned by Putnam County Department of Tourism. Teresa Lagerman, of Condensed, a local branding, design, and website company, was the designer. The printed signage was funded by the Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce and the Putnam County Department of Tourism.

The campaign consists of four designs:

Posters are available for businesses and are on display at the Visitors Center. If your business or organization would like posters for display at your location, please stop by Flowercup Wine, 82 Main Street, to pick up these signs.

Yard signs have been placed alongside the walkway leaving the northbound Metro North Railroad platform. Additionally, we will be working with the Village Trustees to apply additional sign to the outside of trash cans throughout the village.
