Congratulations, West Point Graduates

Celebrate. Dine. Shop. Stroll. Explore Cold Spring, NY.

Memorial Day Festivities Begin This Week.

Memorial Day holiday is upon us! Cold Spring will be bustling and crowded as multiple groups gather on Main Street for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Here are a few of the groups who may visit the business district. Students of the Haldane and Garrison Schools will be out with friends and family when schools are closed Friday-Monday. West Point Academy graduating class will be celebrating with visitors and family members who have come from afar to see their graduation ceremony starting on Wednesday, May 22 and tapering off by Tuesday, May 28. And the VFW Hall veterans will be marching down Main Street for their annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, at 9:00 a.m.

We suggest Main Street shopkeepers expect to see large volumes of street traffic. Here are some tips we recommend business owners take to prepare:

  1. Have extra singles and cash register change on hand.

  2. Don’t run out of stock. Bulk up on stock of your best sellers and popular items.

  3. Consider hanging your American Flags out front. The veterans and graduates will appreciate it.

  4. Provide complementary water, lemonade, or iced tea for your customers. They will appreciate it.

  5. Consider offering hospitality specials, tastings, or features that target the West Point Graduates and their families.

  6. Expect a high volume of families with children and prepare to have extra refreshments and kid friendly treats well stocked.

  7. Don’t forget the dogs. Put water bowls for the pups that will be strolling on Main Street with their owners.
