PROMOTING WEEKDAY BUSINESS ON MAIN ST.

The pandemic has shown that independent businesses need a solid local customer base to survive a crisis. A business can build a community base in many ways, such as by providing high-quality, fairly priced goods that locals request or by offering loyalty rewards to frequent shoppers.

Before the coronavirus, the Chamber organized First Friday events to encourage locals to gather in the village. Today, when social distancing is key, businesses can attract local customers by publicizing what days of the week have the lowest traffic.

To this end, the Chamber is promoting Weekdays Are Great Days to shop in the village. The image above may help you communicate this concept to your customer base. Feel free to use this badge as you tell your customers which shopping times will involve the lowest risk and the most attentive service. You might use language such as this:

Crowds have returned to Main Street on weekends. If you prefer to avoid them, try to schedule your shopping for _____*. The sidewalks are nearly empty then, and parking is easier to find too.

Your customers will appreciate that you are looking out for their safety, and your business will benefit from having more evenly distributed traffic throughout the week.

*Insert your days of lowest traffic.
