As art lovers and advocates, Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, Magazzino’s co-founders, have always sought to further the recognition of postwar and contemporary Italian art in the United States.
Magazzino Italian Art presents a significant collection of Italian art from the Arte Povera movement of the 1960s to the present day.
Arte Povera was the last Italian avant-garde art movement of the twentieth century. The collection demonstrates the unique modes of expression of each artist in the movement. Many drew from the history of Italian art, mythology, science, and the processes of nature, as well as addressing the role of the artist.
Through off-site events and collaborations with other art venues, Magazzino Italian Art also sponsors contemporary Italian artists and international artists whose work is strongly tied to the Italian cultural and artistic heritage.
