BUSINESSES & ORGANIZATIONS DRIVE CHARITABLE GIVING IN PHILIPSTOWN DURING THE HOLIDAYS.

’Tis the season for giving! While we’re busy shopping for gifts for loved ones, we won’t forget those less fortunate than ourselves. Many local businesses partner with charitable organizations to collect donations—including toys, children’s books, eyeglasses, coats, gloves, and meals—to be distributed to those in need. Or you can shop for a cause. Here’s a list of who is raising funds, collecting donations, and seeking volunteers this year:

  • Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce will produce a shared community miracle, Cold Spring Aglow, for the second year in a row. If you’d like to volunteer to help make this celebration on Main Street possible, please write to info(at)coldspringnychamber.com.

  • Cold Spring General Store (66 Main St.) raised funds for the Putnam Humane Society on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 6:30–9:00 p.m. Folks came in for drinks and snacks as they shoped for a cause. The Putnam Humane Society receivee 15% of the day’s sales.

  • Cold Spring Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate (60 Main St.)

    • Children’s Book Drive, Nov. 1–22: Got new or gently used kids’ books ready for a new home? They can be in the hands of needy children by the holidays.

    • Coat Drive, now through Jan. 31: Every year Houlihan Lawrence collects new and gently used coats to be distributed to those in need through the Philipstown Food Pantry. Drop off coats and help keep our community warm.

    • Food Drive, Dec. 6: On First Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., bring food donations for the Philipstown Food Pantry to Houlihan Lawrence and enjoy good company with wine and cheese refreshments.

  • The Endless Skein (126 Main St.). The shop will hold a knit/crochet event for charity on First Friday, the evening of Dec. 6. Yarn and patterns will be provided. Finished projects will benefit various charities.

  • Flowercup Wine (82 Main St.). Beginning on First Friday, Dec. 6, and continuing for the rest of the month, the shop will hold a Lonely Glove Drive. Do you have single gloves in good shape that have lost their mate? Drop them off here, and they’ll be paired with the closest match and donated to a charity. Complete pairs will also be accepted.

  • Coat Drive: Haldane Middle & High School, and the Garrison School are collaborating with the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Loretto Church to collect new or gently used coats to distribute to those in need. You can drop off new and gently used coats at any of those locations.

  • This month The Lions Club donated $10,000 to the Philipstown Behavioral Health Hub and $1,000 to the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center. In addition, the club will hold the following donation drives this holiday season:

    • Eyeglasses Drive: Drop off gently-used spare eyeglasses in the bins at M&T Bank, at the Desmond-Fish Library, and behind Yannitelli’s Fine Wine and Spirits.

  • Toys for Tots: Several local businesses will partner with the U.S. Marine Corps to collect toys for the Toys for Tots program. Be a Santa for local kids in need. Leave toys in the bins located at C&E Hardware, the Cold Spring Fire Department, Drug World, and Foodtown.

Did we overlook a charitable program? If your business or organization has something to share here, please send the details to info(at)coldspringnychamber.com.
