Philipstown Fights Dirty (PFD) and Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce Community Partnership

The 2019 Town of Philipstown GHG Inventory report found that 34% of our community’s carbon emissions result from the globally produced goods and services residents purchase annually, with residents reporting that 70% of home goods are purchased outside of Philipstown. In order to reach Philipstown’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2040, we will need to encourage residents to shop locally. The PFD campaign would like to partner with Philipstown businesses to help make this happen.

The great news is what is good for the environment is also good for the bottom line of local businesses. Not only will reducing carbon emissions save business owners money, but numerous studies have found that customers reward businesses that support social or environmental issues and successfully redirecting resident spending locally can create a growing and sustainable revenue stream.

Why become a PFD Business Community Partner?

In late June 2021 the PFD campaign will pay for and launch a marketing campaign ahead of July 4th to support PFD Business Community Partners with a full page advertisement and social media campaign encouraging local residents to “free themselves from global carbon emissions” by shopping local. The marketing campaign will list participating businesses and encourage residents to take advantage of local loyalty programs during weekdays.

What does it take to become a PFD Business Community Partner?

Step 1:
Register your business on philipstownfightsdirty.org, take a survey to evaluate your businesses carbon footprint and pledge to take actions to reduce your business’ carbon emissions.

Step 2: Partner businesses who sign on would be asked to do one of the following:

Offer a local loyalty program that you offer your customers (loyalty rewards, points, discounts etc.- the campaign would provide a scannable key fob and digital QV scan code for customers to provide participating businesses with to redeem their benefits)

Donate a portion of business profits to the non-profit Philipstown Climate Fund to support local climate-friendly projects or to a business/org on the 1% for the planet charity list.

Step 3: We need your help getting the word out to the community to get more people to join our community-wide pledge to reduce our carbon footprint. Businesses can show they are participants and encourage customers to join in the PFD campaign by (a) posting a transparent PFD sticker in their storefront window; (b) installing an orange PFD light-bulb in a prominent location; (c) providing customers with a scannable key fob or digital QV code for loyalty programs; and/or (d) by distributing a provided PFD card encouraging local residents to pledge during the check-out process.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to working with you.
